Run Details
At Peru Fitness Holidays, we are always on the look out for new running routes. As we recently had a long weekend we were given the perfect opportunity to explore Ausangate.
Ausangate (6,384m) is a mountain of the Vilcanota mountain range situated 100km from the city of Cusco. Its snowcapped peak, can be seen from the city and its powerful energy draws thousands of pilgrims each year who attend the Quyllur Rit'i festival.
Our route starts in the small community of Pacchanta. The community has hot springs running through the community and most houses have built their own natural hot tubs in their gardens.
From the village, the route takes us slowly towards the peak of Ausangate.
If you are lucky you might meet some friends along the trail.
After three hours we eventually made it to the lookout.
We decided to stay the night at the second lookout though it is definitely possible to complete the route in one day. If you have some extra time it is definitely worth taking your time to take in the scenery and peaceful atmosphere.
The second day was a short but fun day (as it was all flat or downhill!), with plenty of mountain top lakes to choose from to have a bath!
The trail eventually takes you back down to the village, where you can finish the run/ trek off with a dip in a thermal bath. Before returning back to Cusco.
A great alternative from the busy treks and routes of Salkantay and the Inca Trail and one that we hope to share with many of you.
